The client a B2B startup based in the USA, specializes in providing immersive user experiences and advertising through cutting-edge extended reality (XR) solutions. With a bold vision to revolutionize retail interactions and communication, they were keen to secure a partnership with a major US retail chain. The client sought to enhance their online shopping experience by boosting conversion and engagement rates. However, they were hesitant to embrace emerging technologies like XR without a clear understanding of its potential impact. We needed to demonstrate the tangible value that integrating XR technology into the e-commerce platform could bring.Deliveries
- Conducted user interviews and surveys to uncover pain points with home goods shopping, such as difficulty visualizing products in their space, limited product information, and cumbersome comparison processes. Market analysis revealed the potential of XR to address these challenges, create a more engaging shopping experience and boosting sales.
- Analyzed leading home goods retailers to identify trends like interactive catalogs and product integration. This paved the way for unique AR features like virtual product placement, 3D exploration, and live consultations with experts, ensuring the app stood out and offered unmatched value.
- Facilitated brainstorming sessions with cross-functional teams to generate creative XR solutions. We prioritized features based on user needs and business impact, creating a user story map that united everyone towards a shared goal of simplifying and enhancing the home goods shopping experience.
- Organized workshops to create quick prototypes of key features like virtual product placement and AR-powered demonstrations. These prototypes were tested with real users using Maze and MTurk, validating design choices and minimizing development risks.
- Provided expertise in defining high-impact features like personalized product recommendations based on budget and lifestyle, and interactive comparison charts highlighting key specs. We also established key product metrics and broke down requirements into actionable tasks, ensuring development focused on delivering core value.
- Used Figma and Miro to create interactive UI prototypes and flowcharts, facilitating clear communication and fostering collaborative problem-solving throughout the project. The app was deployed in a sandbox environment for usability testing with Maze and MTurk.
- Analyzed user interactions with Metabase and UXCam, comparing data with the client’s current app. This demonstrated the positive impact of the XR features, generating an increase in conversion rates and longer session durations for users who engaged with the virtual product placement feature.
- Based on validated hypotheses, two personalized features were implemented – displaying complementary recommendations and accessories alongside viewed products in AR and offering “expert picks” based on user preferences. These features further enhanced the user experience and drove sales.
